Historic Annapolis to host Good Neighbor Day with Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
Date: October 12, 2016
Historic Annapolis, in partnership with Maryland Public Television, will host Good Neighbor Day, a fun and educational day for kids and families to learn about what it means to be a positive member of the community. Daniel Tiger, the title character of the PBS Kids show Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, will be present and helping kids celebrate their neighborhoods. Good Neighbor Day will be held at the William Paca House and Gardens from 10am to 1pm on October 22. Admission to the event is free.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is a television show targeted at preschool-aged children. It is based on the Neighborhood of Make-Believe from the hit family-friendly show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and features Daniel Tiger as the main character. Daniel Tiger is the son of Mister Rogers’ original striped tiger of the same name.
“This is an opportunity for us to help children learn about being a good neighbor,” says Lisa Robbins, Vice President of Education and Interpretation at Historic Annapolis. “We are very excited to showcase Annapolis and to emphasize the importance of caring for and preserving important aspects of our community.”
In addition to Daniel Tiger, other notable figures will be present at Good Neighbor Day. Members from the Annapolis Fire and Police Departments, Postal Service employees, and Midshipmen from the Naval Academy will help kids to understand how important they are in the community. There will also be various games and activities focused on teaching kids about the history of their neighborhood and how they can support their neighbors in big ways and small. Some activities may include writing cards for active military heroes, drawing pictures for senior citizens, and collecting coats and sweaters for those who need them. Don’t miss out on this fun, family-friendly day!
