More than a Doormat: The Art of Floorcloths
Date: Wednesday, August 28, 2019
Location: William Paca House and Garden, 186 Prince George Street
Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Floorcloths were more than just doormats in 18th century homes. Water resistant, durable, and protective, it is likely that inside every home, from working class to gentry, you could find a painted floorcloth. Artist Jennifer Higgins presents the history of floorcloths and the techniques to make them.
After the lecture, try your hand at making your own floorcloth-inspired bookmark out of sailcloth. Supplies and instruction included; all painting skill levels welcome!
Reservations required.
Cost: $20 General Admission; $18 for HA Members and Volunteers; $15 for Curator's Circle Members
