Historic Annapolis to hold Holiday Open House

Date: December 1, 2016

Historic Annapolis is pleased to announce the Holiday Open House at the William Paca House, located at 186 Prince George Street and Hogshead, located at 42 Pinkney Street, where living historians will bring the colonial holiday celebration to life. The event will be held on December 17 from 4pm to 7pm. Admission to the Holiday Open House is free for Historic Annapolis members and $10 general admission, which includes both sites. Holiday activities and light refreshments will be included. Reservations are not required, but are encouraged and can be made at www.annapolis.org.

At the William Paca House, several reenactors will be present during the open house for guests to interact with. Mrs. Paca herself will be present to welcome guests into her home, which will be decorated with traditional 18th century holiday decorations. This event is a holiday favorite for many Annapolitans. It is an opportunity to spend time in the beautiful, historic Paca House as well as to learn more from the very knowledgeable living historians. Laughter, games, music, and sweet treats will fill the house for this festive occasion.

This is a terrific chance for visitors to explore the William Paca House outside of a scheduled tour and to experience the house decorated as it might have been when the Pacas themselves celebrated Christmas there. Don’t miss out on this exciting holiday event!

At Hogshead, representatives from American Heritage Chocolate will be hosting demonstrations and tastings that will allow guests to be transported back in time to see, touch, smell and taste how chocolate was enjoyed by our founding fathers in the mid-1700s.  American Heritage Chocolate produces authentic chocolate products that use only ingredients available int he 17th-century. Annapolis's own Anne Catharine Green will be on-hand to to talk about how our town's residents celebrated the holiday season.  Sweet bags and greenery will be available to make and share and a fiddler will bring holiday sounds to this cozy atmosphere.
