preserving annapolis, one story at a time
What is living history? Why is it important?
Living history brings the past to life by using historical activities, clothing and tools in an interactive presentation — giving visitors a sense of what it was like to live in a particular time period by recreating historical settings, demonstrating crafts, or engaging in historic activities.
Living history is important because it makes the past more relatable, creating a deeper understanding of our diverse history. By immersing visitors in historical settings, people and events, it allows them to connect with the past in a memorable and meaningful way, going beyond books, movies or textbook learning.
Historic Annapolis uses living history events to help visitors understand the time periods depicted at our various properties and events, using either our own volunteer re-actors, or in partnership with Annapolis Living Historians, a group of highly researched, historically accurate living historians who interpret people of the past.
Living history events take place at William Paca House & Garden, the Museum of Historic Annapolis, Hogshead Trades Museum and the surrounding local streets.
Living History events are great for kids!
