Admission at all of our sites on Saturday is just $1 (and free at the Waterfront Warehouse)! \nCheck out our Friday and Sunday activities\, too! \n\nWilliam Paca House and Garden\n186 Prince George Street\nStart your Maryland Day weekend off with a special 30-minute guided tour of the first floor of the William Paca House. Built in the 1760s\, this magnificent home features period furnishings and paintings and reveals the inner workings of an upper-class household including the lives of the enslaved laborers in colonial and revolutionary Annapolis. Take part in special family-friendly activities and explore the 2-acre Paca Garden\, a restful oasis nestled in the heart of bustling Annapolis.  \nAdvance\, timed entry registration is required for this site. Entry will be offered every half-hour. Walk-ins will be accommodated only as space permits. \nWilliam Paca House & Garden Admission Cost: $1 per person \n \nAccessibility Considerations: Accessing the interior of the William Paca House requires ascending and descending several flights of stairs. Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. The upper portion of the garden can be accessed via a ramp with handrails\, but please note that garden pathways are loose pea gravel and steps must be traversed to access the lower levels of the garden. \n\n \nHogshead Trades Museum\n43 Pinkney Street\nTake a short walk down Pinkney Street to Hogshead\, where you’ll find diverse colonial tradespeople working hard on their trades. See Racine’s medals\, plaques\, and personal memorabilia as she shares her evolution from athlete to author\, advocate\, and women’s artistic gymnastic judge. Racine will share how her experiences shaped her voice and her mission to encourage young people to embrace who they are\, and about her children’s book\, Upside Down Is Right Side Up\, a heartwarming story that celebrates friendship\, responsibility\, diversity\, forgiveness\, and accepting others. \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet a Living Historian: Marita Carroll (12 pm – 2 pm)\n\n\n\nStep back in time and meet a living historian portraying Marita Carroll\, a Black Civil Rights activist who took part in the Annapolis lunch counter sit ins in the early 1960s\, helping make meaningful change across the city and beyond. \n\n\n\n\nMeet a Living Historian: Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. (11 am – 3 pm)\n\n\n\nStep back to 1963 and meet a living historian portraying Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Hear Dr. King reflect on his Letter from a Birmingham Jail\, explaining why waiting for justice was not an option and how civil disobedience became a moral duty in the fight against segregation. \n\n\n\n\nCreate a special craft inspired by local Black history and culture.\nGo on a Museum Scavenger Hunt through the museum and learn about local Black history.\nTake a reading break in the Anne Arundel County Library Book Nook\, featuring a specially curated collection of children’s books celebrating African American history and heritage.\n\nDrop-in anytime during program hours. Portraying multiple real-life historical personalities from our country’s collective past\, Antoine helps audiences feel like they have transited a time tunnel. Furniture making had provided an outlet to the pressures of the restaurant business until 1993 when he started the Harris Enterprise School of Fine Woodworking in Manchester\, CT. In seven years of operation the school gained national exposure and recognition. \nIn 2000 he formed a business partnership to open the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking in Manchester\, CT. The school was an instant success and the demand for classes was so great that a second shop was built to allow two classes to run simultaneously. He continually strives to expand his skills and knowledge and has been studying and building period furniture for over 25 years. He is a Contributing Editor for Fine Woodworking Magazine and has written articles for Woodshop News and American Period Furniture. He has also done many videos for www.finewoodworking.com. \nBob’s school offers a variety of classes taught by himself and by many of todayÕs top woodworking instructors. This variety of instructors and styles ensures that there will be something for everyone at CVSW. \nBob’s approach to teaching centers on the belief that people learn “by doing rather than by watching”. Successful furniture making also depends on utilizing a sensible combination of machine woodworking and handwork. Bob’s classes feature hands-on woodworking projects that promote mastery of both handtool and machine woodworking techniques. Bob teaches classes and gives seminars at a number of different schools and woodworking guilds around the country. He is an active member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers and was the founder and editor of the Society’s quarterly e-magazine Pins & Tales until 2019. Bob resides in a converted horseshoe nail factory in Hartford\, Ct. just three blocks from the Wadsworth Atheneum. His free time is spent researching historic inlay techniques\, walking around Hartford and playing with his 4 grandsons whenever possible. \nHe is especially interested in Federal style furniture and the inlay work that was such a big part of that style

If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed\, please opt out by notifying Historic Annapolis staff.\nAbout the Civil War First Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment: \nThe Original First Maryland mustered into the United States service in Baltimore\, MD in May 1861\, for three years of service. It was stationed at various places in Maryland during the ensuing year\, doing guard duty most of the time along the Upper Potomac and C&O Canal. In March 1862\, it crossed into Virginia with BanksÕ troops and moved up the Shenandoah Valley. The regiment was stationed at Front Royal\, Va.\, where\, on May 23\, 1862\, it was surrounded and cut off by JacksonÕs rapid movement. Their gallant opposition retarded JacksonÕs advance\, giving Banks ample time to withdraw in safety from the Valley. The regiment was paroled in September\, and two months later it was declared exchanged. In the meantime\, the small part of the regiment which had escaped capture\, together with some recruits\, preserved the organization and was assigned to the Maryland Brigade (First\, Fourth\, Sixth\, Seventh\, and Eighth Maryland). In March 1863\, this brigade was assigned to KellyÕs Division\, Eighth Corps\, and served in the West Virginia campaign. Upon LeeÕs invasion\, the brigade retired to Maryland\, where\, on July 10\, 1863\, it was assigned to the First Corps. In March 1864\, it was transferred to the Fifth Corps. The regiment re-enlisted\, and on its return from its veteran furlough the battalion of veterans arrived at the Harris Farm just in time to enter that action\, its loss there amounting to 6 killed\, 29 wounded\, and 2 missing; a heavy percentage of loss as only a small number were engaged. Colonel \nDushane was killed at Weldon Road\, and Colonel Wilson fell at DabneyÕs Mills The men served with distinction till the end of the war. \nAbout First Maryland Living History: \nThe First Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment has been an active living history group since its formation in 1972. The organization is made up of dedicated volunteers who have an interest in the history of the Civil War period and strive to accurately portray the life of the common soldier or civilians from the State of Maryland. The First is involved in living history demonstrations\, authentic encampments\, educational lectures\, ceremonial events\, and battle reenactments across the Mid-Atlantic region. Occasionally\, the unit travels beyond the mid-Atlantic as the ELF Mess. The group takes part in programs regularly in national and state parks; a privilege reserved for organizations with high state discipline and authenticity. A wide variety of events take place every year. The First designates one event each month as a company event\, at which we urge our members to turn out. \n  \n  \n \n  \n
