Join us for an open house visit to the William Paca House and Garden\, a five-part Georgian mansion built in the 1760s for William Paca\, one of Maryland’s four Signers of the Declaration of Independence. Discover the lives of its early residents\, including the Paca family and the enslaved people who lived and labored in the home. In the house\, you’ll explore powerful themes of revolution and life in colonial Annapolis. Then take a stroll through the impressive 2-acre Chesapeake Falling Garden\, including formal parterres\, a wilderness garden\, and a kitchen garden. \nEnjoy refreshments as you get to know Historic Annapolis\, its sites\, and other programs and learning opportunities. Educators can also learn about exclusive field trip offers and discounts! \nCost: Free. Please note that this event is for educators only. \n \n  \n  \n\nAccessibility: This event takes place in the William Paca Garden on our tented\, brick terrace. Entry to the Paca Garden includes wooden steps or our brick driveway ramp. The upper portion of the Paca Garden can be accessed via a brick ramp with handrails. The pathways are loose pea gravel. The lower garden levels are accessed by wooden or stone steps. An indoor\, single-use accessible restroom can be accessed via a ramp. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Museum of Historic Annapolis and ‘remember the yesterdays’ of African American entertainment and community in Baltimore and surrounding Maryland counties. \nMeet Baltimore author\, journalist\, and musician Rosa “Rambling Rose” Pryor-Trusty as she shares stories and images from her book\, African American Community\, History & Entertainment in Maryland. In this presentation\, she shares memories of restaurants\, bowling alleys\, media personalities\, jazz musicians\, beaches\, and other cultural highlights from the 1940s through the 1980s. \nThe presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing with Ms. Pryor-Trusty. \nCost: General Admission: $7. Free for HA members\, Military\, and children 17 and under. \n \n  \n  \nAbout our Presenter: Rosa “Rambling Rose” Pryor-Trusty\, a native Baltimorean\, has been an R&B music enthusiast since 1957. She started as a singer\, songwriter and musician\, playing saxophone and piano for the group she founded\, “Little Johnny and the Twilight’s”. Rosa’s trade name is “Rambling Rose”\, a name that was given to her by the late great Nat “King” Cole when she was touring in the 50’s. Rosa was the Entertainment Editor\, Account Executive and Entertainment Columnist for the Baltimore Times and the Annapolis Times for ten years. From 1997 to 1998\, she wrote an entertainment column for the “Buzz N’Around Baltimore Magazine”. Rosa is the co-author of a collector’s item book called\, “African America Entertainment In Baltimore”\, which was published in June 2003 and sold out first print in six weeks and now the book is in its third print. Rosa is the founder\, CEO\, and Chairman of the Board of the Rosa Pryor Music Scholarship Fund\, Inc. created in 1991. The fund provides money for aspiring musicians\, ages 5-17\, to pay tuition and purchase instruments. She is also founder & CEO of an entertainment company with her husband\, William “Shorty” Trusty\, called RoseGarden Entertainment Enterprises\, Inc. This is a company that provides entertainment\, local and national for clubs\, casinos\, hotels\, social events and racetracks. Rosa has received numerous awards since the 1970’s from organizations\, television stations\, radio stations\, governors\, mayors\, congressmen\, senators\, councilmen\, delegates\, other elected officials\, dignitaries and renowned organizations. She is married to William (“Shorty”) Trusty. They are partners in business and soul mates! Children 17 and under: $10 \n \n  \n  \nAbout the Presenter: Jazz music is often hailed as one of America’s original art forms.  The Annapolis Jazz Collective plays tribute to this broad style of music by showcasing songs that have captivating harmonies\, energetic rhythms\, and creative improvisation.  Each of the musicians in The Annapolis Jazz Collective have spent many years sharing this music with audiences around the greater Annapolis\, Baltimore\, and DC area\, playing venues as diverse as jazz supper clubs in DC\, to providing inspirational music at a local farmers market.  Be transported as they perform through many of the best jazz tunes ever written while walking through the history of jazz. \n\nAccessibility Considerations: This event takes place in the William Paca Garden on our tented\, brick terrace. Entry to the Paca Garden includes wooden steps or our brick driveway ramp. The upper portion of the Paca Garden can be accessed via a brick ramp with handrails. The pathways are loose pea gravel.
