DESCRIPTION:Long before the Stonewall Uprising\, and far beyond New York and California\, queer people have lived\, loved\, and shaped American history. From the nation’s earliest days\, LGBTQ+ individuals have been part of Maryland’s story\, even when their lives were pushed into the shadows. This guided walking tour explores over three hundred years of LGBTQ+ history\, pairing familiar landmarks with often-overlooked stories: from a Revolutionary War general to an African American schoolteacher. Join historian Dr. Chris Mielke as we honor those who challenged norms\, built community\, and were brave enough to be themselves. \nThe tour will begin at The People’s Park at 44 Calvert Street and end at the Museum of Historic Annapolis at 99 Main Street. Built in the 1760s\, this magnificent home features period furnishings and paintings and reveals the inner workings of an upper-class household including the lives of the enslaved laborers in colonial and revolutionary Annapolis. Take part in special family-friendly activities and explore the 2-acre Paca Garden\, a restful oasis nestled in the heart of bustling Annapolis.  \nAdvance\, timed entry registration is required for this site. Entry will be offered every half-hour. Walk-ins will be accommodated only as space permits. \nWilliam Paca House & Garden Admission Cost: $1 per person \n \nAccessibility Considerations: Accessing the interior of the William Paca House requires ascending and descending several flights of stairs. Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. SUMMARY:Lecture - Holding the Line: The British Army in North America\, Winter 1775–1776
DESCRIPTION:As 1775 ended\, the British Army in North America faced setbacks at Lexington\, Concord\, Bunker Hill\, and Canada.  Confined to Boston\, the Crown worked on plans to try to reestablish Royal authority across the American colonies.   \nIn this in-person lecture at the Museum of Historic Annapolis\, James McGaughey examines proposed strategies\, leadership challenges\, and clashes with the newly formed Continental Army that laid the groundwork for the dramatic campaigns and events of 1776.  \nAdvance registration required; admission fee includes entry to the Museum. \nCost: $7 General Admission (8+); Free for HA Members \n \nAbout Our Presenter: James McGaughey is an avid historian of American Colonial history.  Mr. McGaughey is an historical re-enactor and has created living history and reenactment programs for over forty years.  Some of the sites include Colonial Williamsburg\, Mount Vernon\, and Fort Pitt Museum.  Mr. McGaughey appeared in numerous documentaries and was an Associate Producer for Young George Washington: The Unknown Years\, airing on Discovery/The Learning Channel.  He recently assisted with Ken Burns upcoming series on the American Revolution and will be appearing in a special program on historical reenacting\, produced by WETA Television.  He is currently working on 250th anniversary events around the country. \n  \n  \n  \n\nAccessibility: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. She was inspired to write the story after a weekend at a friend’s cabin in Deep Creek Lake. \nHer second children’s book\, Drew’s Grand Adventure\, was created as a fundraiser for the continued preservation of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Natasha is a volunteer preservationist and tour docent for the lighthouse. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Museum of Historic Annapolis for a special program and discover the story behind Chesapeake Bound\, An Annapolis Novel. \nMeet author Thomas Guay and explore why Great Britian lost it’s American colonies through his new historical novel\, Chesapeake Bound: a vivid tale of adventure\, rebellion\, and new beginnings in colonial Maryland. \nMr. Guay will perform fiddle tunes featured in the novel. Following a short reading\, enjoy a Q&A session and book signing with the author. \nDon’t miss this unique opportunity to experience history\, music\, and storytelling! \nAdvance registration recommended; space is limited. Admission fee includes entry to the Museum of Historic Annapolis. Books will be available for sale at the event. \nCost: $7 for General Admission (ages 8 and up); Free for Children 7 and under\, HA Members\, and HA Docents \n   \nThis presentation will also be offered at 11 am. \nAbout Our Presenter: Thomas Guay holds a communications degree with a double major in history from the University of Maryland. After an early career as a Capitol Hill reporter\, he turned his focus to colonial history. He has since served as a host at the Charles Carroll House in Annapolis\, worked as a colonial reenactor\, and led tours at several historic homes. A resident of Annapolis\, Maryland\, Guay also performs traditional fiddle tunes with the popular local group\, The Eastport Oyster Boys. \n  \n\nAccessibility Considerations: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. All levels of the Museum\, including the restrooms\, are accessible via the elevator.
