Afterwards\, the author will be available for a Q&A session and a book signing. \nAdvance registration recommended; space is limited. Admission fee includes entry to the Museum of Historic Annapolis. He has written three non-fiction books: “Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse: A Chesapeake Bay Icon” (2020)\, “The Last Days of the Schooner America: A Lost Icon at the Annapolis Warship Factory” (2024)\, and “Battles at Annapolis: Two Remarkable Football Games in the Army-Navy Rivalry (2025). “The Last Days of The Schooner America” was awarded the 2025 Brewington Book Prize by the Maryland Center for History and Culture for the best book on maritime history related to the Chesapeake Bay or the nation published in the previous year. \n  \n\nAccessibility Considerations: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. SUMMARY:Lecture - Holding the Line: The British Army in North America\, Winter 1775–1776
DESCRIPTION:As 1775 ended\, the British Army in North America faced setbacks at Lexington\, Concord\, Bunker Hill\, and Canada.  Confined to Boston\, the Crown worked on plans to try to reestablish Royal authority across the American colonies.   \nIn this in-person lecture at the Museum of Historic Annapolis\, James McGaughey examines proposed strategies\, leadership challenges\, and clashes with the newly formed Continental Army that laid the groundwork for the dramatic campaigns and events of 1776.  \nAdvance registration required; admission fee includes entry to the Museum. \nCost: $7 General Admission (8+); Free for HA Members \n \nAbout Our Presenter: James McGaughey is an avid historian of American Colonial history.  Mr. McGaughey is an historical re-enactor and has created living history and reenactment programs for over forty years.  Some of the sites include Colonial Williamsburg\, Mount Vernon\, and Fort Pitt Museum.  Mr. McGaughey appeared in numerous documentaries and was an Associate Producer for Young George Washington: The Unknown Years\, airing on Discovery/The Learning Channel.  He recently assisted with Ken Burns upcoming series on the American Revolution and will be appearing in a special program on historical reenacting\, produced by WETA Television.  He is currently working on 250th anniversary events around the country. \n  \n  \n  \n\nAccessibility: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. So do we! \nHistorians\, preservationists\, and planners often turn to the a resource that was never meant to have such lasting value: Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps. Created from the 1850s through the 1950s to support fire insurance underwriting\, these detailed maps have become indispensable for tracing changes to buildings and understanding how cities and towns evolved over time.  \nRachel Robinson\, HA’s Vice President of Preservation\, will provide an introduction and lead a hands-on tutorial on using Sanborn maps. Rachel will guide you through the seven map sets available for Annapolis (1885–1921)\, explain how to interpret the symbols and color codes with the Sanborn key\, and show you how to explore maps from other communities across the country.  \nWe invite you to come enjoy hot cocoa and cookies as you dive into this pre–Valentine’s Day workshop! \nAdvance registration required. \nCost: $15 General Admission; $10 for Military; Free for HA Members & Volunteers \n \n\nAbout Our Presenter: Rachel Robinson is the Vice President of Preservation at Historic Annapolis. Life is grand for Drew\, until one day a Storm named Debby roared into town and washed Drew away from his beloved home! Drew is then taken on the adventure of a lifetime on the Bay that is his home. Learn about the Chesapeake Bay as you follow Drew on his adventure. \nAfter story time\, enjoy a special coyote craft and explore the Museum on your own with a scavenger hunt! \nA limited number of books will be available for purchase. \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. Admission fee includes entry to the museum. \nIn case of inclement weather\, the event will take place on Saturday\, January 31\, 2026 at 11 am. \nCost: $7 General Admission (8+); Free for Children 7 and under\, HA Members\, and Military \n \nAbout Our Author: Natasha Nash Dixon is a Maryland native\, born and raised in the Frederick area. She now resides in the Chesapeake Bay area with her husband. Alfred the Angry Chipmunk is Natasha’s first entry into the children’s book genre. She was inspired to write the story after a weekend at a friend’s cabin in Deep Creek Lake. \nHer second children’s book\, Drew’s Grand Adventure\, was created as a fundraiser for the continued preservation of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Natasha is a volunteer preservationist and tour docent for the lighthouse. After an early career as a Capitol Hill reporter\, he turned his focus to colonial history. He has since served as a host at the Charles Carroll House in Annapolis\, worked as a colonial reenactor\, and led tours at several historic homes. A resident of Annapolis\, Maryland\, Guay also performs traditional fiddle tunes with the popular local group\, The Eastport Oyster Boys. \n  \n\nAccessibility Considerations: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \n“Happy All-idays” by Cindy Jin\nDiscover how various families honor the winter season. “Happy All-idays” beautifully conveys the essence of Christmas\, Chanukah\, Kwanzaa\, and beyond! \nThe time has come \nto send holiday cheer \nto family and friends \nfar and near. \n We all celebrate the season \nin our own special way. \nLet’s look at how families \nprepare for each holiday! \nJoin us in celebrating the holiday season with song\, dance\, and a unique holiday craft! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited \n \nPlease Note: An adult must accompany their child(ren) for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room. Masks are optional; hand sanitizer is always available\, and if you are feeling sick\, please stay home. However\, there’s a little issue: her Vietnamese American family has decided to serve duck for Thanksgiving dinner instead of turkey! It’s unusual to have duck for Thanksgiving – what will her teacher and the other kids say? \nTo her surprise\, Tuyet enjoys her yummy thanksgiving dinner anyhow – and an even bigger surprise is waiting for her at school on Monday. \nChildren from diverse backgrounds will appreciate this heartwarming tale about the “proper way” to celebrate an American holiday. \n Advance registration required\, space is limited. \n \nPlease Note: An adult must accompany their child(ren) for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff.
