DESCRIPTION:Step onto Pinkney Street and meet soldiers\, camp followers\, and musicians and experience the Revolutionary War through living history. \nLearn how African Americans served on both sides of the conflict and explore the military equipment they used. \nDiscover the essential roles women played in military camps and hear fife and drum music that guided troops on the battlefield. \nThis program highlights service in integrated units such as the 1st Rhode Island Regiment\, who shaped the fight for independence. \nThis is a drop-in style program. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nMommy Time by Monique James-Duncan\nRollicking rhyme and playful illustrations record a day in the life of two rambunctious children and their stay-at-home mother. As fun as it is being a kid\, it can be hard work being a mom. When Dad heads to his job\, the joyful chaos of getting ready for the day begins. To the children\, that day is a happy blur of school and playdates\, singing and dancing\, supermarket walks and library stops\, bath time\, story time\, bedtime. But Mommy’s time is filled with a whole lot more sweeping\, laundry\, stinky diapers—tiring work achieved with love in her eyes and care in her smiles. An authentic catalog of precious moments in the life of an ordinary family\, this warm\, revealing story builds a bridge of empathy between parent and child and celebrates the value of “Mommy time.” \nCelebrate Mother’s Day in the garden! In honor of preservation month\, this talk highlights Annapolis’ architectural landscape in the 1700s.   \nThe years prior to the Revolutionary War were a time of vast economic growth and opportunity encompassing all levels of Annapolis society. The changing urban landscape reflected the dramatic rise of new buildings creating distinct areas of commercial\, speculative\, and private spheres. In her richly illustrated lecture\, Marcia Miller explores the many connections between the built environment and those who lived\, worked\, and labored in pre-Revolutionary Annapolis. \nThe Historic Annapolis Virtual Lecture Series is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. Throughout her thirty-five-year career at MHT\, Marcia conducted numerous architectural investigations and provided critical oversight of restorations of the state’s most important architectural landmarks such as the Maryland State House\, the Old Treasury Building\, and the Brice House. She has served on advisory committees for landmark buildings across the state and on the Board of the Vernacular Architecture Forum. \nSince completing her master’s thesis on the Chase-Lloyd House in Annapolis\, Marcia has continued to research the craftsmen and builders of early Maryland. Much of her work has focused on the complex interplay of designers\, craftsmen\, and clients in Annapolis\, and how their dwellings fit into a larger trans-Atlantic narrative. DESCRIPTION:Join Drew Shuptar-Rayvis\, citizen of the Pocomoke Indian Nation\, to honor the sacrifices and contributions of Algonkian peoples during the American Revolution. \nLearn about Algonkian and Iroquoian material culture\, trade\, and daily life. Explore the difficult choices between patriotism\, loyalty\, and neutrality as Native communities struggled to protect their ways of life. \nAnalyze the destruction caused by the Sullivan Campaign and evaluate the lasting historical impact of Algonkian peoples on both the Patriots and Loyalists. \nThis is a drop-in style program. Visitors may join at any time during program hours and explore at their own pace through informal interaction and demonstrations. Advance registration recommended\, but not required. \nCost: Free ($5 suggested donation) \n \n  \nAbout Our Presenter: Drew Shuptar-Rayvis (Pekatawas MakataweU “Black Corn”) holds a cum laude Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology from Western Connecticut State University and a Certificate Degree in Archaeology from Norwalk Community College. A true American of the mid-Atlantic region\, his family includes indigenous Pocomoke heritage\, Pennsylvania Dutch\, Welsh\, Swiss\, English\, Scots-Irish\, Boyko Ukrainian and Ashkanazi Jewish\, he honors all of his ancestors as a practicing living historian and regularly participates in colonial era reenactments\, interpretations and public educational events. He has studied and become proficient in the reading of Wampum and works diligently in the research and preservation of the Eastern Woodland languages\, particularly Renape and Mahican and is educated in the many European languages at use in the Colonial Period. He was the first garden manager of Western Connecticut State University’s Permaculture Garden\, and practices Native horticulture. And while we may think of Americans living in the 1700s as largely the subject of genealogy research\, they were active participants in what was a foundational interest and practice in their own time. Family histories were deeply meaningful for diverse early Americans\, but it was also baked into the very structures of their society through law\, politics\, and religion. The first to be planted as part of this 250th initiative\, by the end of this historic Semi-Q year\, a Liberty Tree will be planted in each of Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City.\n \nThe day will begin with a brief ceremony from 11 – 11:30 am\, followed by an open house reception until 2 pm on the terrace of the William Paca House & Garden with light refreshments.\n \nThe Liberty Tree is one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of American resistance\, community action\, and shared civic responsibility. From its origins in Boston protests against the Stamp Act to its adoption across the colonies\, the Liberty Tree became a living emblem of liberty itself. In Maryland\, the Liberty Tree selected by the citizens of Annapolis in September 1775 survived the Revolutionary era and remains central to this story today through its living scion.\n \nThis is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)\, Preservation Maryland\, and the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, with support from the Maryland250 Commission\, working alongside heritage areas\, local governments\, community organizations\, and site stewards. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Maryland Day with Historic Annapolis! \nOn Friday\, explore the William Paca Garden and the Waterfront Warehouse and discover the history of Maryland’s capital city by the water. \nCheck out our Saturday and Sunday activities\, too! \n\nWilliam Paca Garden\n186 Prince George Street\nVisit the William Paca Garden and explore a secret oasis of natural beauty nestled in the heart of Annapolis. This colonial garden\, hidden behind the William Paca House\, has been reconstructed to its original design featuring a terraced landscape with formal parterres\, naturalistic wilderness\, and practical kitchen and medicinal gardens. \nAdvance registration available\, but not required. \nGarden Admission Cost: $1 per person; Free for HA Members \n \nGuided\, hour-long tours of the William Paca House will be available at our regular admission rate\, and begin on the half hour starting at 10:30 am. The last tour is offered at 3:30 pm. \nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. The upper portion of the garden can be accessed via a ramp with handrails\, but please note that garden pathways are loose pea gravel and steps must be traversed to access the lower levels of the garden.  \n\nWaterfront Warehouse\n4 Pinkney Street\nVisit the Waterfront Warehouse and step inside a rare surviving example of a small Annapolis warehouse from the late 1700s. DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nIt’s Not Easy Being a Leprechaun by Marilyn Sadler\nLife isn’t always easy–even for a leprechaun! Connor O’Connor\, an unhappy leprechaun who thinks he can’t make friends because he looks a little different\, finds happiness by being himself and doing good. The perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with little lads and lassies! \nJoin us in celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a song\, a craft\, and a garden scavenger hunt! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. \nCost: $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Military \n \n  \n Please Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room.
