DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nÒMy Family Plays MusicÓ by Judy Cox and Elbrite Brown \nIt’s Music Appreciation Month! “My Family Plays Music” is a beautiful story about a young girl who comes from a diverse musical family. From a great-grandmother who plays an organ at church to an aunt who plays vibes with a jazz combo. She tries out lots of instruments so she can play with her whole family! Do you enjoy music? Do you play an instrument? Do you know anyone who does? Join us on our beautiful terrace as we share a story about a family of music-loving musicians! We’re also making our very own African Kalimba instrument! \nGeneral Admission:  $5 Adults\, $10 Children\, HA Members and Military: Adults FREE\, $8 Children \n \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. \nPlease Note: An adult must accompany their child(ren) for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room. Masks are optional; hand sanitizer is always available\, and if you are feeling sick\, please stay home. This program does not include snacks due to food allergies; food is not permitted in the garden. \nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access this program via the driveway of the Paca House. DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Annapolis in our beloved Paca Garden for special guided garden tours on Friday mornings throughout the summer.  \nTake a stroll through our beautifully restored two-acre 18th century English garden. Painstakingly restored to its original splendor using details drawn from historic artwork and archaeological excavations\, the colonial William Paca Garden is a picturesque retreat from the bustle of the city.   \nYour experienced docent will share its history from the time of William Paca\, signer of the Declaration of Independence\, to present day as you wander the terraced landscape\, formal parterres\, wilderness garden\, the practical kitchen and medicinal gardens\, and orchard. The charming Summerhouse beckons visitors to cross the latticework bridge over a fish-shaped pond.  \nAfter your tour\, feel free to linger and explore further\, or visit the reception front desk to inquire about  tours of the house interior. \nOur docents can also provide information about our other sites – The Museum of Historic Annapolis\, Hogshead Trades Museum and Waterfront Warehouse – all just a short walk away.  \nCost: General Admission $12\, Children $7 \nHA Members\, Military and HA Volunteers & Docents FREE

DESCRIPTION:Meet the Civil War First Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment on Pinkney Street! Learn about their recruiting efforts in August and September of 1862 to replace troops lost at the battle of Front Royal\, as well as reintegrate the prisoners to be exchanged and paroled at Camp Parole. \nCost is FREE with Suggested Donation of $5 \n \nAccessing this program requires ascending a flight of stairs.    \nCancellation and Refund Policy: Historic Annapolis reserves the right to cancel or alter any programs. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed\, please opt out by notifying Historic Annapolis staff.\nAbout the Civil War First Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment: \nThe Original First Maryland mustered into the United States service in Baltimore\, MD in May 1861\, for three years of service. It was stationed at various places in Maryland during the ensuing year\, doing guard duty most of the time along the Upper Potomac and C&O Canal. In March 1862\, it crossed into Virginia with BanksÕ troops and moved up the Shenandoah Valley. The regiment was stationed at Front Royal\, Va.\, where\, on May 23\, 1862\, it was surrounded and cut off by JacksonÕs rapid movement. Their gallant opposition retarded JacksonÕs advance\, giving Banks ample time to withdraw in safety from the Valley. The regiment was paroled in September\, and two months later it was declared exchanged. In the meantime\, the small part of the regiment which had escaped capture\, together with some recruits\, preserved the organization and was assigned to the Maryland Brigade (First\, Fourth\, Sixth\, Seventh\, and Eighth Maryland). In March 1863\, this brigade was assigned to KellyÕs Division\, Eighth Corps\, and served in the West Virginia campaign. Upon LeeÕs invasion\, the brigade retired to Maryland\, where\, on July 10\, 1863\, it was assigned to the First Corps. In March 1864\, it was transferred to the Fifth Corps. The regiment re-enlisted\, and on its return from its veteran furlough the battalion of veterans arrived at the Harris Farm just in time to enter that action\, its loss there amounting to 6 killed\, 29 wounded\, and 2 missing; a heavy percentage of loss as only a small number were engaged. Colonel \nDushane was killed at Weldon Road\, and Colonel Wilson fell at DabneyÕs Mills The men served with distinction till the end of the war. \nAbout First Maryland Living History: \nThe First Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment has been an active living history group since its formation in 1972. The organization is made up of dedicated volunteers who have an interest in the history of the Civil War period and strive to accurately portray the life of the common soldier or civilians from the State of Maryland. The First is involved in living history demonstrations\, authentic encampments\, educational lectures\, ceremonial events\, and battle reenactments across the Mid-Atlantic region. Occasionally\, the unit travels beyond the mid-Atlantic as the ELF Mess. The group takes part in programs regularly in national and state parks; a privilege reserved for organizations with high state discipline and authenticity. A wide variety of events take place every year. The First designates one event each month as a company event\, at which we urge our members to turn out. \n  \n  \n \n  \n
