DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \n“Happy All-idays” by Cindy Jin\nDiscover how various families honor the winter season. “Happy All-idays” beautifully conveys the essence of Christmas\, Chanukah\, Kwanzaa\, and beyond! \nThe time has come \nto send holiday cheer \nto family and friends \nfar and near. \n We all celebrate the season \nin our own special way. \nLet’s look at how families \nprepare for each holiday! \nJoin us in celebrating the holiday season with song\, dance\, and a unique holiday craft! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited \n \nPlease Note: An adult must accompany their child(ren) for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room. Masks are optional; hand sanitizer is always available\, and if you are feeling sick\, please stay home. This program does not include snacks due to food allergies; food is not permitted in the garden. \nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access this program via the driveway of the Paca House. SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture - Strangers in the Realm: Immigration to Colonial America with Dr. Richard Bell
DESCRIPTION:The American colonies were full of strangers–new arrivals born far away. Among the white population\, those colonies teemed with immigrants from all across western Europe and elsewhere. Why did they come? Where did they settle? How did they live? To answer these questions\, we’ll examine the demographic makeup of the British colonies in 1700 and then look at how things changed in the decades afterward. To do so\, we’ll focus in on the immigration experiences of the English\, the Scots\, and the Germans\, the three groups–along with enslaved Africans\, of course–who took the lion’s share of places on board the ships that delivered immigrants in such massive numbers to British North America.  \nThe Historic Annapolis 2025 Virtual Lecture Series is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. To learn more about Zoom and to download the app to your computer\, visit the Zoom website. \nAbout Our Presenter: \nDr. Richard Bell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland and author of the new book Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home.  He has won more than a dozen teaching awards\, including the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching\, the highest honor for teaching faculty in the Maryland state system. He has held major research fellowships at Yale\, Cambridge\, and the Library of Congress and is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities Public Scholar award.
