SUMMARY:Teacher Professional Development: Colonial Maryland on the Brink of Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Educators are invited to join Historic Annapolis for an engaging teacher professional development workshop that explores Maryland’s transformation from a British colony to a leading voice in the American Revolution. This session examines the political\, economic\, and social forces that shaped Maryland during this time. \nParticipants will explore key events in Maryland’s path toward revolution and the leadership of notable colonial figures\, including William Paca\, Charles Carroll of Carrollton\, Thomas Stone\, and Samuel Chase. Educators will hear from historians to gain deeper insights and discuss practical ways to incorporate Maryland history into the classroom. \nWhether you’re teaching early American history or looking to enrich your curriculum with local perspectives\, this workshop offers valuable insights for enlivening your classroom material. \nThere is no cost for educators to attend this program\, but advance registration is required. \nPossible funding is available to cover substitute teacher fees. DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, Mark Letzer explores the surviving silver from the workshops of Annapolis silversmiths in the 1700s. He not only illustrates the few surviving objects but illuminates the lives of these craftsmen not only as silversmiths but as members of a larger community. From taverns to social gatherings and their workshops\, Letzer will share the background and histories of these fascinating men. \nThe Historic Annapolis Virtual Lecture Series is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. To learn more about Zoom and to download the app to your computer\, visit the Zoom website. \n  \nAbout Our Presenter: Mark Beatson Letzer is the former President and CEO of the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, formerly the Maryland Historical Society. He was involved with the organization for twenty-eight years\, serving as President for seven. Letzer co-edited The Diary of William Faris: The Daily Life of an Annapolis Silversmith in 2003 with Jean B. Russo. In 2006 he curated the exhibition A Gardener’s Tale: The Eighteenth-century world of Annapolis Silversmith William Faris at the Maryland Historical Society. In 2021\, Letzer authored the chapter on silver in The Material World of Eyre Hall published by the Maryland Center for History and Culture in association with D. Giles Limited.  Letzer also authored the chapter “From Slave to “Self-Taught Genius” in the catalog Joshua Johnson: Portraitist of Early American Baltimore published by the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown\, 2021. Letzer has lectured and published widely throughout Maryland and the mid-Atlantic on silver and decorative and fine arts. SUMMARY:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime: It’s Not Easy Being a Leprechaun
DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nIt’s Not Easy Being a Leprechaun by Marilyn Sadler\nLife isn’t always easy–even for a leprechaun! Connor O’Connor\, an unhappy leprechaun who thinks he can’t make friends because he looks a little different\, finds happiness by being himself and doing good. The perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with little lads and lassies! \nJoin us in celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a song\, a craft\, and a garden scavenger hunt! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. \nCost: $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Military \n \nThis program will also be offered on Tuesday\, March 17. \nPlease Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room. This program does not include snacks due to food allergies; food is not permitted in the garden. \n\nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access this program via the driveway of the Paca House. A single use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp.
