DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Maryland Day with Historic Annapolis! \nOn Sunday\, explore the William Paca Garden and the Waterfront Warehouse and discover the history of Maryland’s capital city by the water. \nCheck out our Friday and Saturday activities\, too! \n\nWilliam Paca Garden\n186 Prince George Street\nVisit the William Paca Garden and explore a secret oasis of natural beauty nestled in the heart of Annapolis. This colonial garden\, hidden behind the William Paca House\, has been reconstructed to its original design featuring a terraced landscape with formal parterres\, naturalistic wilderness\, and practical kitchen and medicinal gardens. \nAdvance registration recommended\, but not required. \nGarden Admission Cost: $1 per person; Free for HA Members \n \nGuided\, hour-long tours of the William Paca House will be available at our regular admission rate\, and begin on the half hour starting at 10:30 am. The last tour is offered at 3:30 pm. \nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. The upper portion of the garden can be accessed via a ramp with handrails\, but please note that garden pathways are loose pea gravel and steps must be traversed to access the lower levels of the garden.  \n\nWaterfront Warehouse\n4 Pinkney Street\nVisit the Waterfront Warehouse and step inside a rare surviving example of a small Annapolis warehouse from the late 1700s. Today\, you’ll discover a large-scale model of our city\, circa the late 1700s\, featuring a birds-eye view of the historic landscape. \nRegistration not required. \nWarehouse Admission Cost: Free \nAccessibility Considerations: Access to the Waterfront Warehouse requires ascending and descending two steps. \n\nCancellation and Refund Policy: Historic Annapolis reserves the right to cancel or alter any programs. Unless otherwise stated\, all tickets are non-refundable. \nPhotography Policy: Historic Annapolis reserves the right to take photographs and video footage of people of all ages at Historic Annapolis-sponsored events for publicity. SUMMARY:Maryland Day Liberty Tree Kickoff Event
DESCRIPTION:On March 25th\, join Historic Annapolis and the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area at the William Paca House & Garden when we plant a seedling grown from the only surviving genetically identical Liberty Tree scion in the United States—descended from Maryland’s original 1775 Liberty Tree in Annapolis. The first to be planted as part of this 250th initiative\, by the end of this historic Semi-Q year\, a Liberty Tree will be planted in each of Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City.\n \nThe day will begin with a brief ceremony from 11 – 11:30 am\, followed by an open house reception until 2 pm on the terrace of the William Paca House & Garden with light refreshments.\n \nThe Liberty Tree is one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of American resistance\, community action\, and shared civic responsibility. From its origins in Boston protests against the Stamp Act to its adoption across the colonies\, the Liberty Tree became a living emblem of liberty itself. In Maryland\, the Liberty Tree selected by the citizens of Annapolis in September 1775 survived the Revolutionary era and remains central to this story today through its living scion.\n \nThis is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)\, Preservation Maryland\, and the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, with support from the Maryland250 Commission\, working alongside heritage areas\, local governments\, community organizations\, and site stewards. It aligns with Maryland’s 5 Million Trees Initiative\, pairing historic commemoration with long-term environmental stewardship.
