DESCRIPTION:This talk explores the story of Colonel Tench Tilghman—George Washington’s most trusted aide-de-camp—and his complicated ties to a family torn between loyalty to the Crown and the cause of independence. To learn more about Zoom and to download the app to your computer\, visit the Zoom website. \nAbout Our Presenter: Dr. Richard Bell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland and author of the new book Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home.  He has won more than a dozen teaching awards\, including the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching\, the highest honor for teaching faculty in the Maryland state system. He has held major research fellowships at Yale\, Cambridge\, and the Library of Congress and is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities Public Scholar award. Each month\, club members gather at the Museum of Historic Annapolis to discuss works of historical fiction and nonfiction — books that bring history to life in meaningful and memorable ways. Led by Historic Annapolis staff member Christina Chaffman\, we share ideas\, debate perspectives\, and enjoy thoughtful discussion while connecting over stories that make history feel vivid and relevant. This is a welcoming space where great books\, great conversation\, and a lot of fun come together. \nBook Club meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month. Discover how their labor and resourcefulness helped sustain the army and shape the course of the war.  \nThis is a drop-in style program. Visitors may join at any time during program hours and explore at their own pace through informal interaction and demonstrations. Advance registration recommended\, but not required. \nCost: Free ($5 suggested donation) \n \nAccessibility: Accessing this program requires ascending a flight of stairs.
