Independence Day Open HouseDate: Wednesday, July 4, 2018 Location: William Paca House and Garden, 186 Prince George Street; Hogshead, 43 Pinkney Street Time: 10 am - 4 pm Fourth of July events at the William Paca House and Garden commemorate William Paca’s signing of the Declaration of Independence—America’s 1776 birth certificate. The day begins with an inspirational Naturalization Ceremony where dozens of people from communities around the globe become America’s newest citizens in a stirring ceremony. The celebration continues as visitors tour the grand Georgian mansion William Paca built 250 years ago and wander the paths of his beautifully-restored two-acre pleasure garden. Along the way, visitors will likely encounter Mr. Paca himself and other notable Annapolis residents and hear why they pledged their lives, fortunes, and honor to the revolutionary cause of American independence. Special this year, hear Frederick Douglass read his famous speech, What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Hands-on activities for all ages will bring the struggles of American independence to life. At Hogshead, celebrate America’s new flag! You’ll find at 43 Pinkney Street the humble house of an Annapolis tradesperson. On the Fourth you’ll find Anne Catharine Hoof Green, printer of the Maryland Gazette, Mercy, a gardener, Jubb Fowler, carpenter to James Brice, and Nan Snead, local baker. Come design your own American flag, learn about other colonial flags, and watch a carpentry demonstration. You can even visit the cellar to see a beehive oven! Cost: Free Times:
