Music of Colonial and Revolutionary Annapolis
Date: June 3, 2016
Location: The James Brice House, 42 East Street
Time: 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm
David and Ginger Hildebrand, nationally renowned specialists in early American music, will be offering spirited performances of the music of this city during the mid to late 18th century. You’ll experience works performed in fine Georgian homes, such as the James Brice house in which they will appear. Likewise music from the local dancing assembly rooms and theaters. The Hildebrands appear in appropriate attire and perform upon period instruments offering selections derived from 18th-century American sources – such as “A Toast” (for George Washington), selections from “The Beggers Opera,” a French song praising Benjamin Franklin, and a recently discovered farcical song describing a dance held by the Governor here in Annapolis around 1783. Spoken commentary will inform each selection.
