Virtual Lecture - “Ordering from the Director”: Studies in Colonial Period American Furniture

Join presenter Tony Zecca for an overview of Colonial Period American furniture. He will show what a wealthy patron should expect when ordering furniture from a cabinetmaker's shop. You will look at the different Directors, or design books, that would have been used in the period and compare examples that appear in the book and in current collections. Tony enthusiastically shares his experiences as a collector, and education volunteer at Mount Vernon.

Cost: $15 per household for General Admission; $10 per household for HA Members and Volunteers

About our Presenter: Tony Zecca retired after 35 years of public service with the Coast Guard. At Historic Annapolis, he works as a volunteer in collections, courtesy of Robin Matty, Curator of Collections, Historic Annapolis, and as an education volunteer. He is a member of the staff at George Washington’s Mount Vernon as a Historic Interpreter, with a focus on 18th century material culture and as a musician. Tony has been collecting period American furniture for over 25 years. Two of his pieces, a duet music stand and a violin case, are displayed in the Parlor at the William Paca House. In addition, the Rhode Island Furniture Archive at Yale University, has a photograph of an early William and Mary candle stand that is in his study.
