Try printing pamphlets that spread revolutionary ideas\, learn about healing herbs\, sew stars\, and practice writing colonial-style letters. Have your silhouette created in the Summer House for a unique keepsake!  \nNote: All presentations of Meet Frederick Douglass will take place at the Museum of Historic Annapolis. \nAccessibility Considerations: Accessing the interior of the William Paca House requires ascending and descending several flights of stairs. Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single-use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. The upper portion of the garden can be accessed via a ramp with handrails\, but please note that garden pathways are loose pea gravel and steps must be traversed to access the lower levels of the garden. \n\nMuseum of Historic Annapolis:  \nStep into our American Story at the Museum of Historic Annapolis. Enjoy an inspiring film and explore three floors of interactive exhibits where you’ll discover diverse stories and amazing objects that represent over 400 years of our shared history!    \nSpecial Feature: Meet Frederick Douglass and hear an excerpt from his speech\, “For What to a Slave is the Fourth of July”.  Nathan Richardson\, renowned Frederick Douglass reenactor\, will speak to Frederick Douglass’s life\, share his beliefs\, and recall his travels and his books. Presentations will be offered at 1pm\, 2pm\, and 3pm. \nAccessibility Considerations: An accessible entrance is available\, located to the right of the building’s main entrance. All levels of the Museum\, including the restrooms\, are accessible via the elevator.    \n\n \nHogshead Trades Museum: \nCelebrate America 250 with the lively sounds of the Revolutionary era! Stop by Hogshead Trades Museum and enjoy traditional fiddle music and discover how music was used during the American Revolution for entertainment\, marching\, and morale. Dance and sing along to “Yankee Doodle” as you learn the surprising origins of this beloved patriotic tune.  \nAccessibility Considerations: Access to Hogshead requires ascending and descending two flights of stairs. There are no restrooms on site. \n\nAbout our Presenters: \n\nNathan M. Richardson is a published author\, performance poet and Frederick Douglass Historian. He is the author of four collections of poetry and teaches a variety of workshops for emerging writers and spoken word artists. Nathan is now in the 14th year of The Frederick Douglass Speaking Tour – a living history performance that captures completely the physical\, spiritual and intellectual essence of the former slave\, writer\, orator and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Nathan is a Chautauqua Scholar with more than 500 living history performances across the country.\nThe New Century American Irish-Arts Company is a private\, not for profit corporation dedicated to the artistic furtherance\, cultivation\, and preservation of Irish traditional music and dancing in the United States. They help traditional musicians\, dancers\, teachers\, and researchers produce vocational work that brings traditional culture to the public.\nLauren Muney of Silhouettes By Hand has been a professional artist\, entertainer\, special-event producer\, and consultant for over 35 years. Alongside her graphic illustration degree from a leading arts college\, her experience with live events of all types ranges across the United States\, Canada\, Australia\, and in Asia and Europe.\nAnnapolis Living Historians are highly researched\, historically accurate living historians who interpret people of the past. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nRafa Counts on Papa by Joe Cepeda\nWhat do you like to do with your father? Rafa and his papá love to count and measure together. They know how many branches they climb to their favorite spot\, they know how high their dog Euclid can jump\, and they know how far they can run. But there’s one thing Rafa can’t count or measure because it is infinite: the love that he and his papá share. \nJoin us in celebrating Father’s Day with song\, dance\, and a fun craft! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. \nCost: $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Military \n \n  \nPlease Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Matthew is a versatile performer across opera\, oratorio\, art song\, and musical theatre. Acclaimed for his interpretations of Bach and Handel\, The Washington Post lauded him for “deliver[ing] the Gospel texts with agile conviction\,” and by Parterre Box for his “extraordinary breath control\, mastery of coloratura\, and commanding stage presence” in the title role of Belshazzar. As a soloist\, he’s performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, Boston Pops\, American Bach Soloists\, and Washington Bach Consort\, in works by Bach\, Handel\, and Britten.  \nMatthew won first place in the Bethlehem Bach Young American Singers Competition\, the NATS Artist Awards\, and the Washington International Competition for Voice. He serves as the enlisted conductor and music director of the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants and is a founding member of The Polyphonists.  \nAmy Broadbent: With consummate poise\, limpid clarity\, and faultless intonation” (Washington Classical Review)\, Amy Broadbent has garnered recognition as a vibrant and versatile musical force. Amy has graced the stage of Annapolis Opera’s Summer in the Park performances and has performed as a soloist with the Oregon Bach Festival\, Washington National Cathedral\, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra\, Folger Consort\, Staunton Music Festival\, Bach Choir of Bethlehem\, Washington Bach Consort\, The Thirteen\, and the New York Choral Society. She created the role of Sebastian in Scott Ordway’s The Outer Edge of Youth\, her recording of which was acclaimed by Opera News (Critic’s Choice)\, Gramophone\, and BBC Music Magazine. She is a founding member of vocal quartet The Polyphonists. A multi-faceted musician\, Amy’s compositions and arrangements have been performed at the White House\, Washington National Cathedral\, and Basilica of the National Shrine\, and broadcast nationally. Her conducting for the Victorian Lyric Opera Company was hailed as “stellar… a balletic piece of choreography” (Ruby Griffith Award). She is a soprano vocalist and the Associate Conductor for the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters\, the official chorus of the U.S. Navy. To the children\, that day is a happy blur of school and playdates\, singing and dancing\, supermarket walks and library stops\, bath time\, story time\, bedtime. But Mommy’s time is filled with a whole lot more sweeping\, laundry\, stinky diapers—tiring work achieved with love in her eyes and care in her smiles. DESCRIPTION:On March 25th\, join Historic Annapolis and the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area at the William Paca House & Garden when we plant a seedling grown from the only surviving genetically identical Liberty Tree scion in the United States—descended from Maryland’s original 1775 Liberty Tree in Annapolis. The first to be planted as part of this 250th initiative\, by the end of this historic Semi-Q year\, a Liberty Tree will be planted in each of Maryland’s 23 counties and Baltimore City.\n \nThe day will begin with a brief ceremony from 11 – 11:30 am\, followed by an open house reception until 2 pm on the terrace of the William Paca House & Garden with light refreshments.\n \nThe Liberty Tree is one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of American resistance\, community action\, and shared civic responsibility. From its origins in Boston protests against the Stamp Act to its adoption across the colonies\, the Liberty Tree became a living emblem of liberty itself. In Maryland\, the Liberty Tree selected by the citizens of Annapolis in September 1775 survived the Revolutionary era and remains central to this story today through its living scion.\n \nThis is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)\, Preservation Maryland\, and the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, with support from the Maryland250 Commission\, working alongside heritage areas\, local governments\, community organizations\, and site stewards. It aligns with Maryland’s 5 Million Trees Initiative\, pairing historic commemoration with long-term environmental stewardship. Educators will hear from historians to gain deeper insights and discuss practical ways to incorporate Maryland history into the classroom. \nWhether you’re teaching early American history or looking to enrich your curriculum with local perspectives\, this workshop offers valuable insights for enlivening your classroom material. \nThere is no cost for educators to attend this program\, but advance registration is required. \nPossible funding is available to cover substitute teacher fees. So do we! \nHistorians\, preservationists\, and planners often turn to the a resource that was never meant to have such lasting value: Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps. Created from the 1850s through the 1950s to support fire insurance underwriting\, these detailed maps have become indispensable for tracing changes to buildings and understanding how cities and towns evolved over time.  \nRachel Robinson\, HA’s Vice President of Preservation\, will provide an introduction and lead a hands-on tutorial on using Sanborn maps. DESCRIPTION:Mr. Paca’s Garden Storytime is a fun hour full of reading and activities in the William Paca Garden\, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \n“Happy All-idays” by Cindy Jin\nDiscover how various families honor the winter season. “Happy All-idays” beautifully conveys the essence of Christmas\, Chanukah\, Kwanzaa\, and beyond! \nThe time has come \nto send holiday cheer \nto family and friends \nfar and near. \n We all celebrate the season \nin our own special way. \nLet’s look at how families \nprepare for each holiday! \nJoin us in celebrating the holiday season with song\, dance\, and a unique holiday craft! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited \n \nPlease Note: An adult must accompany their child(ren) for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Activities are held outdoors on the tented terrace at the William Paca House & Garden when possible. In the event of inclement weather\, the activities will be held inside in our conference room. Masks are optional; hand sanitizer is always available\, and if you are feeling sick\, please stay home. This program does not include snacks due to food allergies; food is not permitted in the garden. \nAccessibility: Visitors with limited mobility can access this program via the driveway of the Paca House.
