Planning Your Native Plants Garden

Come celebrate the “Year of the Garden” with Historic Annapolis! Join landscape architect and Anne Arundel Community College professor Anne Gleason for an in-person lecture on the open-air terrace of the William Paca House, overlooking the beautiful Paca Garden.

Learn from Anne about planning and designing a beautiful, native garden, including an understanding of soils, plants to choose, invasive species to beware of, and general guidelines on garden creation and maintenance. Native plants gardens attract beneficial insects, birds, and microorganisms that create a healthy ecology, provide wildlife habitat, and help protect your garden from unwanted pests. Join us and learn how to create a welcoming native habitat in your backyard!

Cost: $15 General Admission; $12 for HA Members, Volunteers, Military, and Children 10-17

About Our Presenter: Anne Gleason, Landscape Architect, has worked in the field of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning for over thirty years. She has focused her career on studying and working with ecological systems such as wetlands, waterways, forests, soils, and their relationship to the built environment. Recent projects include storm water retrofits, design of tidal and nontidal wetlands, erosion control plans, buffer management plans, forest conservation plans, hiker/biker trails, public park design, environmental education facilities, and commercial and residential landscape plans. Ms. Gleeson is familiar with local permitting processes and has 20 years of experience with State and Federal permitting.

To understand the composition and mechanics of different ecological systems, Ms. Gleeson has lived in and traveled to many parts of the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
