Preservation Easements
Historic Annapolis holds 50 preservation easements, primarily within the historic district. Easements are legal covenants between property owners and the easement holder that protect the historic and architectural significance of a building or property. The vast majority of our easements run in perpetuity.
If you are an interested party (property owners in Annapolis, real estate agents, title companies, attorneys, or prospective homebuyers) with questions about our easement program or if you would like to verify that HA holds an easement on a specific property in Annapolis, please contact our Vice President of Preservation at rachel.robinson@annapolis.org.
Please Note: All exterior changes to structures within the Annapolis local historic district require approval by the Historic Preservation Commission. Some, but not all, properties also require approval by an easement holder such as Historic Annapolis.
