Step back in time and explore the tastes, traditions, and stories that shaped colonial Annapolis! This immersive walking tour reveals how food reflected class, culture, trade, and daily life. Visit three distinctive historic sites: the Waterfront Warehouse, Hogshead Trades Museum, and William Paca House & Garden.

Along the way, discover how global trade, local ingredients, social status, and enslavement shaped what Annapolitans ate and how food was prepared and served. Explore the everyday foodways of working and middling residents, the elaborate dining customs of the city’s elite, and the essential labor and culinary knowledge of enslaved people. Enjoy period-inspired tastes and sensory experiences along the way while discovering Annapolis’s past through its kitchens, markets, and tables!

Cost: General Admission: $20. Children (13-17), HA Members and Military: $15. The cost includes the Paca Garden admission.

Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as the tour is held rain or shine. The tour route is approximately ¼ miles long and includes elevation changes and uneven walking surfaces.

Accessibility Considerations: 

Waterfront Warehouse: Accessing this building requires ascending two small steps. There are no restrooms available on site.

Hogshead Trades Museum: Accessing this program requires ascending and descending two flights of stairs. There are no restrooms available on site.

William Paca House & Garden: Accessing the interior of the William Paca House requires ascending and descending several flights of stairs. Visitors with limited mobility can access the brick Paca Garden Terrace via the driveway of the Paca House. A single-use accessible restroom can be accessed by a ramp. The upper portion of the garden can be accessed via a ramp with handrails, but please note that garden pathways are loose pea gravel and steps must be traversed to access the lower levels of the garden.
