During the Revolutionary War, James Brice served as Captain of the Annapolis city militia and County Lieutenant of the Anne Arundel County militia, positions that earned him the honorary title “Colonel.” But James wasn’t the only Colonel in the Brice family; his brother Edmund, an artist by training, was named a Lieutenant Colonel by Congress at the personal request of the Marquis de Lafayette. Wartime responsibilities kept James Brice close to his Annapolis home, while Edmund Brice’s duties as an aide to Lafayette kept him on the move. Glenn E. Campbell, former Senior Historian of Historic Annapolis, explores the fascinating life stories and revolutionary experiences of two brothers who joined the fight for American independence.

About our Presenter: Glenn E. Campbell earned degrees in History from the U.S. Naval Academy and University of Maryland, College Park. Following his active-duty naval service, he joined the staff of Historic Annapolis in 1997 and was named Senior Historian of the non-profit historic preservation and education organization in 2008. In 2021, he received the Heritage Leadership Award from the Four Rivers Heritage Area. Since retiring from Historic Annapolis in 2022, Mr. Campbell has indulged his love for international travel while remaining engaged in public history as an independent scholar.
