DESCRIPTION:Long before the Stonewall Uprising\, and far beyond New York and California\, queer people have lived\, loved\, and shaped American history. From the nation’s earliest days\, LGBTQ+ individuals have been part of Maryland’s story\, even when their lives were pushed into the shadows. This guided walking tour explores over three hundred years of LGBTQ+ history\, pairing familiar landmarks with often-overlooked stories: from a Revolutionary War general to an African American schoolteacher. Join historian Dr. Chris Mielke as we honor those who challenged norms\, built community\, and were brave enough to be themselves. \nThe tour will begin at The People’s Park at 44 Calvert Street and end at the Museum of Historic Annapolis at 99 Main Street. At the conclusion of the tour\, a small reception will be held at the Museum\, featuring light refreshments and an opportunity to continue the conversation. \n \nThis program is sponsored by our friends at Annapolis Pride\, celebrating\, advocating\, & empowering the LGBTQ+ community in Annapolis and its surrounding areas. Each program is designed for little ones\, 3-7 years\, with a book reading\, song\, and craft/art project\, plus time to explore the Paca Garden following the story hour. \nRafa Counts on Papa by Joe Cepeda\nWhat do you like to do with your father? Rafa and his papá love to count and measure together. They know how many branches they climb to their favorite spot\, they know how high their dog Euclid can jump\, and they know how far they can run. But there’s one thing Rafa can’t count or measure because it is infinite: the love that he and his papá share. \nJoin us in celebrating Father’s Day with song\, dance\, and a fun craft! \nAdvance registration required\, space is limited. \nCost: $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Military \n \n  \nPlease Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the program; garden time is not supervised by staff. Nathan is now in the 14th year of The Frederick Douglass Speaking Tour – a living history performance that captures completely the physical\, spiritual and intellectual essence of the former slave\, writer\, orator and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Nathan is a Chautauqua Scholar with more than 500 living history performances across the country.\nThe New Century American Irish-Arts Company is a private\, not for profit corporation dedicated to the artistic furtherance\, cultivation\, and preservation of Irish traditional music and dancing in the United States. They help traditional musicians\, dancers\, teachers\, and researchers produce vocational work that brings traditional culture to the public.\nLauren Muney of Silhouettes By Hand has been a professional artist\, entertainer\, special-event producer\, and consultant for over 35 years. DESCRIPTION:This talk explores the story of Colonel Tench Tilghman—George Washington’s most trusted aide-de-camp—and his complicated ties to a family torn between loyalty to the Crown and the cause of independence. To learn more about Zoom and to download the app to your computer\, visit the Zoom website. \nAbout Our Presenter: Dr. Richard Bell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland and author of the new book Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home.  He has won more than a dozen teaching awards\, including the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching\, the highest honor for teaching faculty in the Maryland state system. He has held major research fellowships at Yale\, Cambridge\, and the Library of Congress and is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities Public Scholar award. He serves as a Trustee of the Maryland Center for History and Culture\, as an elected member of the Massachusetts Historical Society\, and as a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. \n  \n\nThe information contained in the HA Virtual Lecture series represents the historical research\, views and opinions of the lecture presenter and may not represent the views or opinions of Historic Annapolis\, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:Meet Camp Followers from the Revolutionary War! Visit Hogshead Trades Museum and learn from living history interpreters about the vital roles women played during the fight for independence: cooks\, laundresses\, nurses\, and more. Discover how their labor and resourcefulness helped sustain the army and shape the course of the war.  \nThis is a drop-in style program. Visitors may join at any time during program hours and explore at their own pace through informal interaction and demonstrations. Advance registration recommended\, but not required. \nCost: Free ($5 suggested donation) \n \nAccessibility: Accessing this program requires ascending a flight of stairs.   \nCancellation and Refund Policy: Historic Annapolis reserves the right to cancel or alter any programs.
